It has been another great week of school at SHA!

I was so pleased to spend time with many of our new parents at Wednesday’s New Parent Coffee and last night our faculty and I had the opportunity last night to discuss the nuts and bolts of our curriculum at our annual Back to School Night.

What a fantastic opening of school!

With great fanfare. teachers enthusiastically welcomed students back to the building on Wednesday. Balloons, music and signs all created a festive atmosphere for the big day! On Thursday, students were settling into routines and, by today, we are off and running to a great start of school.

Friends - every student sitting before you is truly a miracle – each with a familial Jewish journey unique and frankly – miraculous.

Charlie, Gabriella, Evan, Joe, and Benjy – it has a been a privilege to watch you grow into the fine young people that you are today.

Each of you, a precious soul on your on individual paths towards shelimut – self-actualization.

It’s been a week with highs and lows. It was with deep sadness that we received the news of Rabbi Moskowitz’s passing. He meant so much to so many of us in the community. It is truly the end of an era. We offer open-hearted comfort to Mrs. Moskowitz who taught here at SHA for so many years – May H’ grant you many years of well-being and continued vibrancy.

Dear SHA Family,

As the year progresses, we slowly observe the year-end rituals and milestones. Memorial Day Weekend is upon us and June is looming with the promise of summer. Thank you to those who were able to attend the Virtual Zoom State of the School. We will send out the Zoom recording for those who were not able to join. It was fun preparing for it; looking through pictures and remembering the flow of the year – our months have been filled with learning and growing in our experiences.

I am just back from the JEIC – Jewish Education Innovation Challenge – retreat in Chicago. I was honored to attend and engage in the conversation addressing the question; “how can we be “meaning makers” for our students? In what ways can we, as educators, plan to incorporate the “why” into our teaching.

There was a significant amount of space given to addressing the emotional well-being of our students, teachers and families at the Spring Heads Meeting of NWAIS. The concern is based on data gathered from surveys and interviews.

Dear SHA Family,

Yom Hashoah is not an easy day in our schools. How we usher in and escort our youngsters into the horrific history of the Shoah is complicated and must be planned with intentionality and care. Without to age and developmentally appropriate learning.
